Digger Day is the Shoalhaven’s leading fundraising event to support DefenceCare which ultimately helps Australia’s veterans.
The Nowra RSL Sub Branch hosted the event and received great support from the Shoalhaven and Kiama Rugby Union Clubs.
This year the Shoalhaven played host to two Victoria Cross recipients, Warrant Officer Keith Payne AM and New Zealand special forces Lance Corporal Willie Apiata.
The late Cameron Baird VC was represented by his father Doug, as was Kevin Wheatley VC by his son George.
Four Cross of Valour [CV] recipients Allan Sparkes OAM, Timothy Britten, Darrell Tree and Richard Joyes attended.
The playing of The Last Post was another one of the important part of the event.
The Shoalhaven players will wore special jerseys for the day.
On the front it features an Australian digger with a Kangaroo during the Mena Camp, Cairo, Egypt, while on the back there are five diggers on camels.
The Shoals ended up winning the three grade matches played on the day – just to make things even more special.
