55yo Campbelltown man faces 11 counts of child sexual assault

A Campbelltown man charged over the alleged sexual and indecent assault of three young girls, including an incident in the Shoalhaven, has appeared in court.

The man, aged 55, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested by State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad in Nowra on Friday.

He appeared before a special sitting of Nowra Local Court on Saturday where he did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by registrar Craig Cockburn.

In court on Monday he faced 11 charges, including eight of indecent assault of a person under 16 and three of sexual intercourse of a person under 16.

Child abuse detectives started an investigation earlier this month after reports a man had sexually assaulted three young girls.

Following extensive investigations, a 55-year-old man was arrested at Nowra Police Station about 9am on Friday.

Police allege the man, who was known the girls, sexually and indecently assaulted them on separate occasions between February and May this year.

The offences allegedly happened in Campbelltown, Sydney and at Worrigee.

Two of the girls were aged 12 and the other just nine.

The man did not apply for bail which was formally refused.

The matter will return to court on September 19.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.

Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/.
