Navy helicopter squirrels away on golf course

Golfers at the Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Worrigee Links got more than they bargained for during their round on Monday morning.

A Squirrel helicopter from 723 Squadron at HMAS Albatross made a precautionary landing on the course around midday.

It is understood the helicopter suffered an inflight malfunction during a regular training flight.

The crew followed standard procedure, landing as soon as possible, putting the aircraft down on the 10th fairway at the Worrigee course without incident.

Maintainers from Albatross were assessing the aircraft for the possible cause of the problem.
