Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men
Chilly weather turning into freezing afternoons was the order of this week. Wednesday was an overcast, miserable day that froze us to the bone. Saturday weather was a copy of Wednesday. On Wednesday, three Social games of Triples and three of Social Pairs were completed. On Saturday, the first round matches of the Club Triples Championship were contested as well as two games of Mixed Social Triples and one of Social Pairs.
Wednesday 12th July: An overcast, cold, miserable day. The greens were running at a fast pace.
Rink 1 witnessed a game of Social Triples where Dave Solomon, Steve Hollington and Graham Mills proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the Club Triples due to a big win of 38 shots to 17.
Rink 2 held the game of the week. Jim Wallace (first game of bowls), Bert Watson and Gary Tearle opened strongly to take the first two ends by a shot. Dean Morgan (visitor from up North), Adrian Davidson and Ray Solway replied in the best way possible by tying the score at 3 all on the 5th end. Jim, Bert and Gary took the next end by a shot but Dean, Adrian and Ray were just hitting their straps and played superb bowls to move out to a 9 shot 4 lead. Not to be outdone, Jim, Bert and Gary won the next end with a fantastic 4 and followed this up with a 2 and a 1 shot end to take the lead on the 12th end by 11 shots to 9. Dean, Adrian and Ray had to dig deeply to come up with their own fantastic four to retake the lead. Ends were evenly distributed until consistently accurate bowling saw Jim, Bert and Gary send down two fabulous 3 ends to surge to the lead by 19 to 15 shots only to see Dean, Adrian and Ray reply with a fantastic four to tie the game at 19 all on the 19th end. What a finish as Jim, Bert and Gary won the penultimate end by a shot. Could they keep up the concentration required to win a tight game of bowls? No, Dean Morgan, Adrian Davidson and Ray Solway win the final end by 3 shots to march over the line by 22 to 20 shots. Thanks mates for wonderful game of bowls in very trying conditions.
Rink 3 In another tough game, Allan Furniss, Neil Miller and Harry Pearce held their nerve to just get home by 17 to 12 shots. Rink 4 saw the closest game for the week with Tom Smith and Alessandro Lattanzio just holding onto the lead from a fast finishing Joe Wright and Eddie Lee to take the game by 20 shots to 19. Rink 5 Rob Ray and Mick Edwards had to use all their finesse to win by the small margin of 20 to 15 shots. Rink 6 This great tussle observed John O’Dell and Joe Mejlak playing wonderful bowls to outlast their opponents by 21 shots to 15.
Draw Results. 1st Prize Rink 5 Rob Ray and Mick Edwards, 2nd Prize Rink 6 John O’Dell and Joe Mejlak, 3rd Prize Rink 4 Tom Smith and Alessandro Lattanzio, First Spin Rink 6 John O’Dell and Joe Mejlak. Not won. Players Draw won by Terry Wright
