The Western Sydney woman was a passenger in one of the two cars involved in the accident.
Sergeant McCarthy said ambulance officers had attempted to revive the woman.
“She passed away as a result of her injuries,” he said.
The other three people involved in the crash were treated by ambulance officers at the scene, and will be taken to hospital as a precaution.
Sergeant McCarthy said the Crash Investigation Unit had been contacted to examine the scene.
“We expect this road will be closed for a number of hours,” he said.
4.03pm: Nowra Road has been closed between Mount Ashby Road towards Moss Vale and Sheepwash Road near Fitzroy Falls.
Helicopter paramedics are currently on the scene, along with police, fire and rescue and the SES.
Motorists are advised to detour via the Illawarra Highway.
4pm: Nowra Road is closed after a head-on collision.
Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
A helicopter has landed on site.
The number of people and any injuries are unknown at this stage.
