This year six of our club members will hit their 80 year milestones. Happy Birthday to our first octogenarian of the year, Patricia Maidment. Good to see Lynn Ellis trying out her broken foot and her new pings, it's been a few months compulsory rest, and her patience was truly tested with the Pings waiting to be taken from the box.
On Friday January 20 it is another stableford event so if you have not dusted off the clubs for a while this would be a good start. Remember to call the pro shop on 44430836 and Andy or Andrew will happily put your name down. Visitors are always welcome.
Callala Saturday Men’s Golf
A day where players were pleased to have the shade of the fairway trees to shelter them from the heat.
Along with the shade to assist in keeping cool was the very much appreciated ice water at the 12th to rehydrate players for their charge home.
Today saw our youngest and most talented player, Cody Wehmeyer step up and demonstrate his talent with 42 stableford points securing him top spot on the podium.
Congratulation Cody and good to see you back in the winner’s circle.
Coming into second spot just one point behind Cody was our wily old fox, Barry Jarman who was kind enough to take the day off blackfishing to come along and show the rest of us how to play the game.
Well done Barry and here is hoping you have as much success with your fishing.
Nearest the Pins:- Jamie Reardon, Col Chessell and Alan Ferguson.
A strong field saw the ball rundown go down to 34 points.
Callala Golf Club is keen to have more members.

Nowra Golf
Summer conditions have not been kind to Nowra Golf Club. Hard mowing has caused much need for watering to bring the course back to its usual pristine condition. Severe cutback of green surrounds with constant hot weather is a recipe for poor playing conditions.
Hard fairways made scoring easy on Saturday as players took advantage of the extra run. Those that made the grade in ‘A’ grade were Dave Murphy with 43 pts for the win. Joel Perkins continues his good form with a solid 42 pts for second and Peter Russell gave ‘par’ a nudge with his 40 pts for third. Long drive went to Tony Johnston. Drive/pitch went to Andrew Bradley.
Cam Stubbs put in another top score of 40 pts to nudge out Graeme Wearne after c/b for first. Third went to Phil Johnston with the better 39 pts. Long drive to Tony Gilmore. Drive/pitch to David Bisiker.
Steven Gray held onto first in ‘C’ grade after c/b from Ron McGuire after they both scored 39 pts. Ron Rice was good for third with his 37 pts. Glenn Buikstra got the long drive. Balls ran out at 35 pts on c/b. Peter Courtney made ‘C’ grade drive/pitch.
The NTP’s at the 4th went to Denis Mulvihill, the 8th to John Pratt, Tony Hosler was good for the 12th and Tim O’Shea was closest at the 16th.
The Vets cranked up for the year with a Single Stableford for boys and girls. The girls’ numbers reflected the severe conditions, but Gloria Davis was the best with 31 pts and balls ran out at 24 pts. Linda Trusler was good for the 4th and Ange Boadle was closest at the 8th.
On the blokes’ side Denis Mulvihill had an awesome round of 44 pts to take first place. Dennis Davis made second with his 39 pts and Tony Gilmore was good for third with 37 pts. Balls ran out at 31 pts. The NTP’s at the 4th went to Rick Currie, the 8th and Jackpot to Trevor McCarthy and Denis Mulvihill was good for the 16th.
The mid-week Stableford was reserved for those who just had to come out and play golf. Those who did brave the elements in ‘A’ grade included Kel Campbell who had 39 pts for first. Coll Stubbs was next in line with the better 38 points from Tony Hosler who had to settle for third.
You only needed 35 pts to contest ‘B’ grade and Bob Hanson did that. Ross Tooley and Billy Mason shared second and third with 34 pts. Balls ran out at 34 pts. The NTP’s at the 4th went to Kel Campbell, the 8th to a visitor in Laurie Wilson from New Brighton and Ross Tooley was good for the 12th. The drive/pitch 13th went to Eric Edwards.
That’s it for this week. For all members who pay half yearly, your month’s grace is nearly over and you can’t win anything if not financial.
Callala Women’s Golf
Callala women’s 2017 golf program got off to a very 'hot' start with a forecast top temperature of 35 degrees expected for the day! Players expressed regret at the decision taken at the 2016 AGM to have an 8.30am start rather than 8am during the summer months, particularly if such high temperatures look set to become more frequent. Despite these heat-related concerns, 12 players, keen to flex their golf-swing muscles after the Christmas break, hit off in a Single Stableford event. As a concession to the heat, most opted for carts.
Captain, Aoauli Carrett, playing some very classy golf, taking the honours on the day with a very healthy 44 points. Claiming the runner's-up guernsey, with a very impressive 40 points was Mhairi Rostron. Mhairi has only come to golf in recent years, and her game, both on fairways and greens, has steadily improved, along with her handicap, over the last two seasons, with the occasional flash of brilliance!
Nearest the Pin on the tricky 6th was won by Aoauli Carrett and the Drive & Pitch on the 14th went to Sue Hamilton. The Ball run down winners were Joy Deane (38 points), Sue Hamilton (37), and Barbara Higgs (37).
Club membership fees ($215) for 2016 are now due; the Callala RSL Country Golf Club Annual membership fee has to be the best deal in the Shoalhaven region.
Whether you are a local or a visitor, if you have a current Australian Golf Link number and handicap, you are most welcome to join us on a Wednesday, or for Vets on a Tuesday. To make enquiries, please phone the Golf Shop on 4446 5112.

WWPSWC
THE WWPSWC AT THE COUNTRY CLUB
A forecast of rain with a hot day to go with it saw 18 of our members turn up to play a Stableford Event. This included a welcome back to Ron Piper who played with us quite a while ago. We need to give him a suitable nickname, so members please offer up some thoughts on this matter.
The winner and convincingly so was Kiwi with 24 points for the nine holes. Next was Skeeter our barbeque chef, he had 22 points on a countback from the Copulator, who by the way has been around the money for a while now.
Following them was Sir Humphrey-Slim with 19 points. Mumble got nearest the pin on the 10th and Ned got the one on the 13th.
Following golf we had our AGM with existing committee returned in their positions.
The winner of the 2016 Eclectic was announced and that turned out to be Rocket Ron with a very good round over the year. He is also $50 the richer which was promised to the winner of the 2016 Eclectic at the 2016 AGM.
General business was discussed and various issues were brought up. Sandwiches and drinks were supplied to those attending, by our golf club.
Next week’s game is at the Country Club, hit off at 7.30am.
