It was really really emotional and it still hasn’t sunk in. It was amazing to see his colours to go past the post like that.
- Tash Burleigh
The six-year-old mare was transferred to Burleigh after long-time trainer Graeme Spackman was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly he passed away on Tuesday morning, prior to the race meeting.
“It was really really emotional and it still hasn’t sunk in. It was amazing to see his colours to go past the post like that,” Burleigh said.
Burleigh got to know Mr Spackman after she became his apprentice jockey.
“I was there for about three years, then I became his foreman when I finished riding, it was a good four years.”
Clipper made it two wins for as many race starts when she took the step up in class to take out the Ray White class 1 handicap over 1100 metres with jockey Brodie Loy on board.
The three-year-old filly was impressive at Wagga Wagga in December, where she broke her maiden on debut for Canberra trainer Matthew Dale.
