A brisk sea breeze greeted the starters at Nowra Community Sailing Club for the Manildra Point Score nine last Saturday. Michael Fairbairn won the start from Bill Jauncey while Wayne Norris and Dave Horton and Rod Dean on the Manly Graduate (MG) missed the start by about 20 seconds. Wayne soon made up the distance and passed Bill and Dave by the top mark. Meanwhile Michael sailing his Finn began to clear out from the two Spirals and MG.

As the second lap began Michael was well ahead of Wayne who was leading Bill and the MG. However as he worked to windward, Michael had the mainsheet traveller fail, enabling Wayne to almost catch him. Over the next three laps Michael demonstrated his sailing ability by clearing out from Wayne and at the end of the race Michael almost lapped Bill, who was almost six minutes behind Wayne.
After adjusting the times by individual sailor’s handicaps, Michael had a convincing win over Wayne by one minute 21 seconds, with Bill over two minutes behind Wayne, and Dave and Rod 12 seconds behind Bill.
