On Wednesday we had the Grand Final of the Club Minor Singles, the first game in the Club Minor Pairs Championship was also played along with Social Bowls. Saturday witnessed a visit from the Kiama Silvers Team in the Bowls NSW Club Challenge and Social Bowls. On Sunday morning, the Gerringong Blues Team arrived for the Bowls NSW Club Challenge and in the afternoon we hosted the Men of League Nowra Bowls day.
Wednesday 12th October was a cool, fine day with the greens running at medium pace. Rink 1 held the Grand Final of the Club Minor Singles Championship. This was a match worthy of a Grand Final with the lead changing on numerous occasions. John Black’s consistently great bowling saw him as our Clubs Minor Singles Champion for 2016 over Ray Solway by 31 to 25 shots.
Rink 2 was the first match of ours Club’s Minor Pairs Championship for 2016. Daryl Goodger and Bert Madge played some good to close the score to 20 to 22 only to be outplayed by Ian Abberley and Steve Hollington, who won the match by 26 shots to 20.
Rink 3 saw the first of our Social games. Garry Way, Graham Mills and Trevor Politch bowled superbly to win the Triples game by 19 to 12 shots.
Rink 4 witnessed an overwhelming win to Tommy Smith and Joe Mejlak who annihilated their opposition by 34 shots to 7.
Rink 5 held a Triples game that saw exquisite bowling result in Paul Takac, Joe Wright and Alan Rose win their game by 26 to 9 shots. Welcome back Alan.
Rink 6 was a masterful game of Triples that resulted in Greg Morphett, Ken Taket and John O’Dell having a great win over their opposition by 23 shots to 9.

Saturday 15th was just the perfect day for bowls. Our Silver Team was pitted against Kiama and went down by 6 points to 0 in a very close set of matches. A game of Social Pairs and Triples were contested.
Results of our Silver Teams against Kiama in the Bowls NSW Club Challenge 2016, Singles won by Kiama 25 to 21, Pairs won by Kiama 29 to 21, Triples won by Kiama 23 to 17 shots. Kiama Bowling Club won the day by 6 points to 0.
Sunday 16th was another glorious day for bowls. Our Blues Team were playing against Gerringong Bowling Club on our home turf. The greens were running at a medium pace. The Gerringong Team proved too good on the day and our Blues Team just failed to make the grade by 2 matches to 1. This was followed by the Men of League Bowls Day that took up most of the afternoon.
The hosts were Stuart Raper and the charity secretary, Carol Weller. A sausage sizzle provided by the Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens Bowling Club was followed by 10 ends of Social Bowls.

Huskisson Women
On Thursday 13th October Heather Hart played May Bobrige in the Consistency final. The game was played in testing weather conditions with the wind gusting in all directions. It was also very cold.
Despite these conditions there was some fine bowling from both women. The game was very close and at the 19th end the score was 95 - all. May then pulled ahead to win the match 150 - 130.
Congratulations to May Bobrige on being the winner of the Club Consistency competition for 2016. May has now received her eighth star for Consistency which is an outstanding achievement. Well played May and congratulations to runner-up Heather Hart.
South Coast District
Robyn Herbert and Lorraine Foster from Culburra have taken out the District Minor Pairs 2016. The second round was held at St Georges Basin with lead Lorraine Foster and Skip Robyn Herbert of Culburra defeating Carmen Colusso and Sandra Crimmins of Milton-Ulladulla in the A.M. In the P.M. Lorraine and Robyn defeated Mary Walker, Kim Rudd from Greenwell Point.
The final was held at Bomaderry with great bowls played by both teams between Lead Patricia Hutching Skip Ann Bennett from St Georges Basin and Lorraine Foster, Robyn Herbert from Culburra, there were great bowls played by both teams with Lorraine and Robyn winning the game.
Culburra Ladies
Our social ladies were out in force last week with lots of ladies enjoying the sun and friendly competition. Tuesday winners were Fay Bennett, Robin Bryan and Betty Oldfield over Dawn Neville, Lynne McKee and Elaine Parkinson, Anne Dwyer and Joy Hanneman over Laurel Cranney and Annette Barry, Helen Day and Gail Scott over Margaret Gilchrist and Judy Watson, Trish Bailey and Sandra Annetts over Carol Blackshaw and Lyn Hulbert. Ruth Tinsley and Thelma Cooley over Edna Baxter and Marea Challender.
Our Thursday winners were Ruth Tinsley and Annette Lapins over Carol Blackshaw and Helen Neilsen, Carol Turton, Trish Bailey and Annette Barry over Ruby Salmon, Joy Hanneman, Thelma Cooley and Narelle Westyn over Chris Fletcher and Lyn Hulbert.
The semi-final of Consistency saw June Jones defeat Robyn Herbert and Jenny Castellan defeat Maree Guilfoyle. The final between Jenny and June was a wonderful game to watch, with beautiful draw bowls and a very close score. Congratulations to June who took out the win!
Nowra held their Major Minor Pairs tournament with Culburra being well represented. Trish Bailey and Lorraine Foster took out the PM prize, while Anne McCauley and Jenny Castellan were the overall winners – great job ladies.
Culburra also had great success in the District Minor Pairs with Ruby Salmon and Helen Neilsen and Lorraine Foster and Robyn Herbert both making it to the semi-final. Lorraine and Robyn won their semi-final game, and went on to win the event in a great final against St Georges Basin.
Annette Lapins competed in the NSW 2016 State Women’s Deaf Singles Championship – and was the overall winner – congratulations Annette – a wonderful achievement!
Callala
Fast greens and gusty winds were the order of the day last Saturday, 15th October for the semi final of the Mixed Pairs, between Terry Castle and Barbara Hollands against Terry McMillan and Garry Manning. This was a relatively close game until the 11th end when Terry and Garry surged ahead winning 6 ends in a row. Terry and Garry go into the final with a 25-16 win.
Last Tuesday,11th October, the ladies played a triples game. Joan Jagger, Jan Wright and Lyn Byrne defeated Joy Green, Colleen Tracy and Audrey Mansfield in a battle with the wind. It is great to see Joan Jagger back on the green after several months of ill health.
Berry Men
The Club's Minor Pairs Championship has been won by Ken Chittick and Barry Dunn against the competitive pairing of Ken Stephens and David Lambert. Ken and David led until end eight and from that point Ken and Barry took over and put a stop to the match by scoring six shots on the last end.
The last match of the 2016 Triangular Cup competition between Gerringong, Shoalhaven Heads and Berry was played at Berry on Wednesday 12th October and victory went to Berry by four points from Gerringong. This concludes the 2016 programme for this successful competition which at this match saw 78 members from the three clubs compete.
With the introduction of daylight saving the Club will be recommencing Twilight bowls at 5.00 pm of a Thursday with the first game set down for 20th October. Bookings for both the Twilight and the Wednesday and Saturday social play can be made on the booking sheet or by telephoning 0488 729 229 by 12 noon on the day of play.
Some recent social matches of note included Adam Rigney and Phil Chittick win a close result from Harry Harrop and Russell Tulloch. This match was tied on a number of occasions including end 20. The mixed match saw Irene Dunn and Geoff Lidbetter after being tied at end 13 take the match from Denise Prentice and Col Good. Another pairs game saw Lindsay McNamara and Rob Folkard with steady scoring defeat Geoff Chalmers and Nick Nicholls.
Geoff Lidbetter, Phil Chittick and Adam Rigney won Gerringong's recent Pig Day but the winnings have not hit the Berry Club barbecue.

Worrigee Wattle Charity Day
The Shoalhaven Women’s Bowling Club are once again have their Mixed Triples Charity Day. Money raised on the day will be donated to Beyond Blue (mental health), with winning teams on the day receiving around $1000 in prize money, donated by Brad from Redicool Air Conditioning.
The event will be on the 28th November at the Worrigee Sports Club, Worrigee Road, Worrigee. Two games 15 ends, $30 entry fee, composite teams may enter.
We also have many great raffle prizes on the day including a Inverter Air Conditioner also donated by Brad. Your Support for this worthwhile charity would be appreciated
