Jamberoo dominated the opening exchanges, having multiple chances on the Bulldogs’ line.
The best came when Kaela Thomas put Brooke Smith through a hole, only for Lauren Murty to tag her right on the line.
The Bulldogs finally had their first ball in the Jamberoo half after 10 minutes after a strong kick chase by the team, following a Georgia Thomas kick.
The deadlock was finally broken two minutes before the half, when the dynamic Emily Burke scooted over from dummy-half.
Ebony Murray failed the conversion from near the right touchline and the score remained 4-nil until the break.
After the break, the Roos continued to dominate possession but couldn’t turn it into points.
The Bulldogs finally got in strong field position after Murty’s strong kick forced the Roos to play out of their own end.
This started a trend in the game, as the minor-premiers started to gain momentum.
But against the run of play, electric speedster Smith broke the Dogs’ defensive line on halfway and beat the cover defence of Burke to score in front of the Jamberoo faithful.
Kicker Erin McParland held her nerve and converted the try, to give Jamberoo the lead with 10 minutes to go.
The Roos nearly extended their lead minutes later when a Kaela Thomas grubber caused confusion in the in-goal before Emmah Haynes finally put the ball dead.
The Dogs best chance in the final minutes came when Olivia Patterson found room on the edge, before Smith tagged her at full stretch.
Jamberoo held on and claimed their first ever Women’s League Tag crown 6-4, and the first premierships for the club in more than a decade.
Best of the Roos Smith, Thomas, skipper Carly Ryan and Abby McParland, while the Dogs were led by player-of-the-match Murty, Burke, Patterson and Ebony Murray.
