Garrick replaces Peter Mata’utai, who will instead travel to Queensland with the non-Nines playing squad for the trial against the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls at Pinklands Oval, Redlands on Saturday.
Toa Samoa international Mose Masoe has also been forced out of the two-day tournament, with a minor side strain, and has been replaced by fellow new recruit and Ireland international Tyrone McCarthy.
Mata’utai will be joined by former-Culburra Dolphins star Adam Quinlan in the Dragons team, to take on the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls at the weekend.
The 23-year-old has been named to start at fullback, an opportunity he is aiming to grab with both hands.
“Training has been really good and tough, which most pre-seasons are,” Quinlan said.
“But now I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to the games coming up, starting with this weekend.
“It’s a big opportunity for me to show that I have improved as a player since going overseas last year.
“And after coming back here and digging in during pre-season, I think I have given myself the best chance to succeed this weekend.”
