Speculation has been rife since last week when it was announced the South Nowra Masters store was not going ahead, that The Good Guys was one of four multinationals linked with the unfinished building.
In a statement The Good Guys said it remains committed to the Nowra community.
“During this period the store’s 22 current employees will remain employed so they can continue to support and service the local community through The Good Guys website and The Good Guys Warrawong store,” a spokesperson said.
“While The Good Guys will endeavour to move quickly, the company will not be doing anything in haste and will be looking for the right location before reopening its doors.”
The spokesperson said Nowra team members would be engaged in a scheduled program of activities that involve training and development, assisting at The Good Guys Warrawong store and undertaking cause projects in the local community.
“This program will be in place for team members for 60 days following the closure of the current store while a new site is sought, however in the event that a new location is unable to be secured within this time frame, the situation will be reassessed,” the spokesperson said.
“The Good Guys remains committed to its local customers and Nowra customers will receive free delivery for any purchase made through The Good Guys website from Monday, February 8, 2016 until new Nowra store opens.”
The Good Guys will continue to honour all gift cards, PAY LESS cards, store credits, product warranties, Concierge service plans, returns and lay-bys through The Good Guys Customer Care team.
Customers are encouraged to call the Customer Care on 1300 466 348 to discuss their options.
The statement said The Good Guys was passionate about making a difference in the communities in which it operates and would continue to dedicate a percentage of earnings to ‘Doing Good’ in the Nowra community.
The Good Guys will continue to provide financial support to Hope Centre Food Barn, Nowra’s local cause partner, and will have Nowra team members actively involved in various cause projects that positively impact the local community.
It is understood the soon to be vacant Good Guys store will be the new home of Spotlight, which is relocating from the Nowra CBD.
The Register understands Spotlight’s lease will expire some time this year and has heard from staff at the local store the company had been looking for a different location for its Nowra operation for a number of years.
It is also understood staff were told after the story broke on social media last year the business would be moving to South Nowra and arrangements were being made to accommodate them and their needs.
The move would cast a shadow over the future of the historic building in which Spotlight is located in, in the Nowra CBD, which was formerly tenanted by Woodhills, Youngs and Grace Bros in Berry Street.
The building is owned by an Australian family investment company, based in Queensland.
It is understood there has also been expressions of interest on the historic building.
Spotlight was contacted but did not comment.
