IT appears Bomaderry will be getting another supermarket, with confirmation German supermarket giants Aldi has purchased a block of land.
It is understood Aldi has bought the former Nowra Skateway roller skating rink in Narang Road Bomaderry, just off the Princes Highway roundabout.
The site has more recently been home to the SALT Ministries church.
The South Coast Register understands the location is zoned for such a supermarket development, with Aldi waiting to lodge a development application with Shoalhaven City Council.
It would be fourth Aldi supermarket for the Shoalhaven with operations already open in Nowra, the new Vincentia Marketplace and Ulladulla.
The proposal could add further pressure on the Bomaderry and Nowra retailing sector which is already facing the prospects of another Woolworths supermarket to be built in Bomaderry on the corner of Cambewarra Road and the Princes Highway.
That development has faced stiff opposition, particularly from Bomaderry retailers who believe the supermarket giant’s application does not meet the zoning requirements for the location and has the potential to decimate Bomaderry businesses.
