The conference, with the theme “reaching out”, was attended by 650 women from all over the country.
“It was wonderful,” said Mrs Montgomery. “We reconnected with long-lasting friendships.”
The two main resolutions covered by the club were pushing for affordable housing for women and urging the government to implement the Gonski report which recommends significantly increased funding for government schools.
Other motions included the Advanced Health Directive and presumed consent for organ donation. The organisation will now lobby government on these issues.
One of the most popular events at the conference was the Women of Influence panel. This was facilitated by journalist Liz Keen and attended by Dr Nikki Williams, chief executive officer of the Australian Coal Association; Melinda Pavey MLC; Dr Lisa O’Brien, chief executive officer of the Smith Family; and Denise Knight, the newly elected Mayor of Coffs Harbour.
The VIEW Club has 365 clubs nationally and 21 from Berry to Ulladulla. Next year’s convention will take place in the Gold Coast.
