Contractors from Designcrete staged the first major concrete pour for the floor of the new structure on Wednesday, with 92 cubic metres laid in the shallow end of the pool.
Walls for one of the tanks for the water play area were also laid, making a total of 140 cubic metres of concrete for the day.
The floor will eventually be laid in three sections, with the deep end next and then the centre section to complete the 275 cubic floor area. Contractors are also starting on the form work for the pool walls.
On latest estimates, the pool could be open by February 2015.
