Money to encourage businesses to employ older workers

EMPLOYERS who hire and retain job seekers aged 50 and over are now eligible to receive a $10,000 incentive payment.

The employees must be employed full-time, 30 hours or more and have been receiving an income support payment for at least six months.

The Restart program will pay employers $3000 after six months of employment, $3000 after a year, $2000 after 18 months and a further $2000 at two years.

Employers who hire mature age job seekers on a part-time basis, between 15 and 29 hours per week, will be eligible for a pro-rata subsidy. Restart subsidies will be delivered through Job Services Australia providers.
