Dementia payment to end on July 31

VITAL support for the care of people suffering severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia will cease in 48 hours, and the federal government is yet to announce how the resulting shortfall in need will be met, according to Charles Wurf, chief executive officer of Leading Age Services Australia NSW-ACT.

“The Assistant Minister for Social Services, Senator Fifield, announced late last month the Dementia and Severe Behaviours Supplement would cease on July 31,” Mr Wurf said.

Mr Wurf said there was no consultation with providers of aged care prior to the announcement that the supplement would cease after July 31.
