Hundreds of year 10 students from high schools throughout the Shoalhaven, as well as jobseekers and interested members of the public flocked to the Shoalhaven campus of the University of Wollongong for the annual expo.

The expo featured over 80 exhibitors, ranging from defence to government, community and business organisations ready to speak with students about career options.

It was a great chance for year 10 students to find out what kind of subjects to study during their HSC years in order to pursue their desired career.

Just a few options for students to experience included using aircraft simulators from HMAS Albatross, touching material with the consistency of skin at the Shoalhaven Skin Care Cancer Clinic stall, learning about gaming development and how to take blood from a vein in a (fake) arm.  

Nowra Anglican College year 10 student Gaby Bobbermien was browsing a range of stalls.

“It’s great to see all the different options available,” she said.

Vincentia High School year 12 students Nick Musiello and Andrew Day had more specific interests.

“It gives us a good idea of what’s out there,” Nick said.

“We’re interested in computing.”

They said the expo had encouraged them to consider further studies.

Bomaderry High School year 10 student Angela Eyles said it was a helpful insight into further study.

“It teaches you what courses you can do,” she said.
