The community stood together with pride for a service at Nowra War Memorial at the Nowra Showground gates.
A march then followed a military jeep with 90-year-old, well respected elder and Korean veteran Steve Dodd (Mulla Walla) to Harry Sawkins Park.
Those who marched were cheered by onlookers.
The NAIDOC banner was held high by local indigenous youths.
Flags were raised at the Shoalhaven City Council chambers as the Australian National Anthem was sung.
This year’s NAIDOC theme is serving country: centenary and beyond.
There will be a range of NAIDOC activities across the Shoalhaven during the week.
