In the women’s competition Shoalhaven Heads Maroon were narrowly defeated by St George’s Basin White 1–nil.
The ball travelled from one end of the field to the other in an evenly contested game.
Heads defenders Peta Griffin, Tracey Applerly and Jo Faulker were at their best to keep the skilful Basin forwards scoreless.
Lauren Keaney, Tracey Casinelli and Raz Morgan combined well in the midfield to feed the Heads’ strikers Melissa Schutz and Nicole Stone.
Not to be outdone, Basin were strong through the mid section with Ashlee Williams, Kim Kenny and Kim Matherson.
Basin’s keeper Wendy Williams took control of the circle and protected the goal with great experience.
The goal came with two minutes to go with Alisha Duncan putting a through ball to Sharon Walters who was able to sneak the ball past the keeper into the goals.
St George’s Basin Red took on Allsorts Green in the other womens game.
Allsorts Green were eventual winners 4–1.
Natalie Cochrane was able to finish well scoring three goals for Allsorts.
Natalie was joined on the scoreboard by Peta Brooks.
Allsorts were too strong in the midfield through Toni Parrish, and was supported by Jacqui Fraser, Stacey Thomson, Cassie Porters and Jenny Flanagan.
Jess Muir scored Basin’s only goal, a great effort in her second game of the day.
Kim Matheson, Kim Kenny and Danielle Dolby all played well as did Gabby Lazaro, Georgia Matheson-Gee and Makayla Rickwood.
Basin goal keeper Candice Hands Phillips saved many shots at goal and was supported in defence by Nadine Longbottom.
Allsorts Orange were too strong for Shoalhaven Heads Blue, running out winners 8–nil.
Allsorts’ goalscorers were Mel Boundy (2), TJ Newton (2), Lauren Duncan, Rachelle Kennedy, Bianca Smith and Peta Brooks.
Ann Boatswain played an outstanding game in goals for the Heads, however the Allsorts forwards were too experienced for the Heads defence.
In the juniors Kangaroo Valley were too strong for Bluejays.
Bluejay’s Daniel Ball, Lauren Richards and goal keeper Madeline Gaffney all played well but they were outclassed by Kangaroo Valley.
James Haynes scored two goals for the Valley and was best on field.
James was joined by Joseph Cuttler (2) and Hamish Heald (1).
St Georges Basin defeated Allsorts 4-nil in the other junior game on Saturday.
Matt Brett scored two goals, as did Ben McDonald.
They were supported by Tristian Roberts and Josh Rickwood, who combined well and displayed great passing and possession of the ball.
Allsorts keeper Saxon Perry had a fantastic game in goals.
Allsorts’ Cooper Perry and Alyssa Phelan tried hard all game only to be out played by the strong Basin team.
