Northern Tigers 1
Southern Branch nil
THE eighth game of the season saw the Southern Branch under 15 girls take on the mighty Northern Tigers, who are now first on the competition table.
Both teams held fairly even possession throughout the game, wrestling the ball from one end of the field to the other.
Southern Branch started the game well with numerous free kicks and shots in the first half, mostly taken by Jazmine Zabel, Bella Dolan and Maddi Goulding.
Southern Branch played a good passing and pressing game.
The midfield worked hard to produce chances and also to defend the opposition’s attack.
Sophie Heath was under the pump and used her skill on the ball to redirect traffic.
The Northern Tigers managed to break through in the 26th minute to score their one and only goal of the match.
The second half saw an equally as intense battle, with the Southern backs showing their worth and blocking the oppositions attack at every post.
Mariah Peever, Talia Westley, Jasmin Hirst, Lani Johnson and Meredith Cheyne guided the defence and kept the goals out.
The girls worked well together with their substitute goalie Beth Neilsen. Captain Meredith Cheyne said the Southern girls played exceptionally well and have improved so much since the last time they played the Tigers.
She was proud of the girls’ improvement over the course of the last eight weeks. Player’s player was Sophie Heath.
