LAST Saturday seven SBUG cyclists and one family member joined the ‘Ride Around The Lake’ charity cycle for youth homelessness along with around 500 riders of varying ages and ability.

The day was cold and damp, but the riders spirits were high with the challenge to complete the 40 or 10 kilometre ride for a needy cause. Fortunately the predicted gale force winds didn’t arrive until late in the afternoon, once the ride was over.
Hot food and drinks soon warmed the participants after their cycling efforts.
The cycle path around Lake Illawarra is a great scenic interesting route; varying from suburbia to farmland and parkland, with great views of the water and background mountain ranges.
The organisers ensured the riders safety and comfort, providing clear directions and support, with many enthusiastic volunteers and bike maintenance helpers, as well as entertainment at the finish.
Too bad the weather wasn’t as cheery, but all enjoyed their contribution.
On Sunday May 11 SBUG are cycling to Comerong Island Break wall and return, starting at 9am from the Nowra Visitors Centre.
It is a 40 kilometre moderate pace, no hills mountain bike ride; using bitumen with some traffic and unsealed roads.
For a shorter ride start from the ferry at approximately 9.45am.

The SBUG monthly meeting will be held tonight in the library meeting room at 7pm and all members and visitors welcome.
This Thursday’s midweek bike ride, will start at 9am from the Worrigee Road bus shelter, outside the Shoalhaven Crematorium at Worrigee.
This is a 35 kilometre mountain bike ride in the Currumbene Forest, out to Myola and return.

This Saturday morning, three road bike rides will start from the Nowra Visitors Centre at 7am with training ride and 8am social cycle to Greenwell Point.

On Monday there will be a ride to Berry for coffee, which is a 50 kilometre return road bike ride with some traffic mainly on back roads and rolling hills.

SBUG now have two medium size mountain bikes for loan by members, their family or their friends; also available for hire within the Shoalhaven by those outside SBUG.
