The notification advises police of the party type, location, expected guest numbers, etc. 

This is valuable information for police to ensure your party is enjoyed safely by you and your guests.  

The notifications are viewed by officers attached to the Crime Management Unit, including licensing police.  

An officer may make contact with the host of the party to discuss your party plans to ensure you have practices in place to keep everyone safe.

In the past parties have gone wrong, brought about by excessive alcohol consumption and/or gatecrashers. 

Shoalhaven hasn’t been immune to this but hasn’t experienced any major issues for a number of years and that is how we want it to stay.  

Parties are a great way for people to relax and enjoy themselves, but poor planning can lead to problems.  

Police urge party hosts to take some time to plan carefully. 

A few simple precautions and thorough planning can reduce the risk of issues arising as well as ensure a good time is had by all.  

Police do not provide security at private parties but are happy to offer advice to ensure the best practice has been put in place.  

If you are planning a function, we recommend you take the following precautions:

It is the host’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their guests, which also extends beyond their residence.

We encourage people to maintain a safe party environment and be mindful of how their guests’ behaviour impacts on neighbours. 

Register your party with local police. Visit www.mynite.com.au to access party planning information and register your party.

Send out written invitations only, not via text message, e-mail or social networking sites such as Facebook.

Remember it is illegal to buy or drink alcohol if you are under 18. It is also illegal for somebody to supply alcohol to a minor.

Consider how your guests will get home. Organise transport for those who have had too much to drink.

If gatecrashers arrive, act quickly. Refuse them entry and ask them to leave. If they do not leave, contact the police.

Think about supervision and security for your party. Consider hiring licensed security personnel.

Don’t allow people to wander around or congregate out the front of your house. Try to confine the party to a backyard, building or enclosed area as it easier for you to control your guests. 

Avoid using front yards or street frontages as this attracts uninvited guests and gatecrashers.

Be responsible with service of alcohol, regardless of your guests’ age.
