Council previously investigated the rezoning of the paper subdivision known as the Heritage Estates to allow for residential development.
However the proposed rezoning was refused under federal environmental law.
The proposal is to rezone the land to E2 Environmental Conservation in council’s new Local Environmental Plan.
The proposed new zoning recognises the area’s ecological significance.
The Elouera and Fairview estates have not been the subject of detailed rezoning investigations in the past but share similar environmental characteristics and flora and fauna species to the Heritage Estates and adjacent national parks.
The proposal can be viewed at council’s administrative building, on Bridge Road, Nowra or online at www.shoalhaven .nsw.gov.au, follow the link to Documents on exhibition.
Public submissions will be received until 5pm Friday, May 9, 2014. Submissions must be made in writing and can be emailed to council@shoal haven.nsw.gov.au or posted to the general manager, Shoal haven City Council, PO Box 42, Nowra NSW 2541.
