The synthetic field of the new Charley Bean Oval in Lindfield was a pristine pitch on which the ball spun quickly.
Southern started strong gaining the first two corners of the match.
They remained strong throughout the match holding out numerous shots and crosses from the Northern Tigers.
Kiara Rochaix (Burrowang - The Highlands) had an amazing game, saving countless shots and remaining dominant and vocal for the whole game.
Southern battled some illness and injury towards the end of the first half, but came out fighting in the second half of the game.
Southern’s defence was extremely strong, and even though they had to make a few scrambling saves, they managed to hold the Northern Tigers’ attack at bay.
Coach Rob Cheyne said that he was proud of the girls for holding up a fight against such tough opposition so early in the competition.
There is still a long and promising season ahead.
