Hockey season prepares to hook in

THE Shoalhaven hockey season starts on March 22 and teams are still looking for players.

So why not try an Olympic sport played on an all weather surface?

With no more training and game cancellations, hockey is a true family sport, with competitions for men and women, boys and girls.

Games are played in one location on an international standard synthetic turf at the Bernie Regan Sporting Complex, North Nowra.

There is also the opportunity for juniors to represent the Shoalhaven in various state championships across NSW.

Local competitions include senior men’s and women’s competitions played on Saturdays from 12.30pm starting from March 22.

Junior hockey for under 10 to 16-year-olds is played on Saturday mornings from March 22.

There will also be a junior “come and try hockey” development program before the junior competition on Saturday mornings for 10 to 16-year-olds who want to try hockey.

Hockey Australia’s Hookin2Hockey program for under six to nine-year-olds will again be on Thursdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm starting May 1.

The program costs $30 for two terms of hockey and a Hookin2Hockey pack which includes a new hockey stick, shin-pads and a hockey ball.

New players are always welcome.

Skilled local coaches will provide a program full of interest for new starters and young players wanting to try hockey and advance their skills in a fun environment.

The program will focus on skills development and playing modified games.

For the senior and junior competitions, registration as a player and individual teams is available.
