Council monitors the beaches over the summer period in accordance with NSW Office of Environment and Heritage Beachwatch protocols.
As part of the monitoring process, council tests for bacteria known as enterococci which indicate water is polluted with stormwater or sewage and might be unsafe for swimming.
Monitored beaches include Shoalhaven Heads, Tilbury Cove, Warrain, Collingwood, Cudmirrah, Mollymook, Rennies, Racecourse, Bawley Point Beach and Merry.
The results of beach water quality testing can be viewed on council’s website, www.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au.
