PYREE dairy farmers Tom and Kyleigh Cochrane have tasted success at International Dairy Week (IDW) in Tatura in Victoria, taking out junior champion Illawarra.

The premier dairy event in Australia and the southern hemisphere, IDW is among the top five dairy cattle shows in the world.
The Cochranes were declared junior champion at the National Illawarra Show with Kangawarra Stella 3863, while Berry couple Brad and Jess Gavenlock were reserve junior champion with Cherrylock Malda’s Pride.
There was further success for the Cochranes at the National Brown Swiss Show with Kevindale Zeus Rosina taking out first in the cow four years in milk as well as being the best uddered.
A number of local cattle are competing at the various national shows as part of IDW and have secured placings.
Along with the Cochranes’ Kangawarra Stella and Gavenlocks’ Cherrylock Malda’s Pride, which both also scored wins in their respective heifer classes, Tim and Natalie Cochrane of Numbaa also took out heifer class first places with Eagle Park Bygold Pet and Eagle Park Monarch Morgana-IVF and a cow five years in milk class with Kangawarra Heather 3188, which also won best uddered in its class, while Bluechip Absolute Pamela was also third in the heifer class.
In the National Ayrshire Show, Jaspers Brush couple Paul and Vicki Timbs gained a second with Mayfield Farms Shimitan in the heifer class and two third placings with Mayfield Farms Rality Solcecily and Mayfield Farms Pokers Spot for cows in milk.
At the National Jersey Show, the Gavenlocks gained placings in the heifer classes, a first with Bralock Mexicano Merle, second with Bralock Merch Merle and third with Bralock Governor Merle.
Hayley and Stu Menzies of Menzies Farms at Numbaa, along with Matt Templeton, gained a second in the cow five years in milk with Bushlea Agent S Beauty.
The couple, who also run Rivendell Jerseys, placed second in the heifer class with Rivendell Tequila Crystal.
And there was further success for Mrs Menzies, with her family’s farm, Brunchilli Jerseys, taking out grand champion Jersey with Brunchilli Sambo Priscilla as well as a host of other placings and the premier breeder award.
