A retired Commonwealth public servant from the state’s north has brought the potential scam to the notice of NSW Fair Trading.
The scammers claim to be from Reclub, providing refunds from government departments for overcharging.
Jan Dixon, from Banora Point, reported receiving a call from a woman who said her name was Karen and that she was entitled to a $5248 refund.
She was told to call Christopher Duncan on 02 6100 1883 and quote a reference number RJ5412.
When Mrs Dixon questioned the caller and suggested there was no such federal government agency, she said the caller became very agitated and insisted Reclub was a new agency set up by the new government.
