Police said a 20-year-old woman alleged she was assaulted by a male doctor while she was a patient at a South Coast hospital on October 24, 2013.
Police were alerted to the claims and officers from Nowra Police Station started inquiries into the matter.
A 44-year-old man was arrested by detectives at St George Police Station on Tuesday morning and charged with indecent assault.
He has been bailed to appear in Nowra Local Court on February 24.
Police would not specify at which South Coast Hospital the offence allegedly took place.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District said it had no comment to make as it was a police matter.
