He took the role on February 9 and said he was looking forward to an exciting and challenging tenure.
“BPC has an exceptional reputation throughout the Australian Government and the ADF due to its strong command, highly skilled team and critical work in the maritime domain,” Rear Admiral Barrett said.
“I am delighted to take up the role. I look forward to working closely with the team, learning more about the issues and leading BPC forward this year.
“The Command deals with a number of significant threats at the border such as people smuggling, illegal foreign fishing, counter terrorism and more, and I will ensure BPC continues to deliver a co-ordinated national security response to protect the nation’s wellbeing.”
Defence Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston emphasised the importance of the commander BPC role and said he looked forward to the contribution Rear Admiral Barrett would make in supporting Customs and Border Protection and the ADF.
