AS has become tradition for the annual TriHusky triathlon, this year’s event was once again blessed with perfect weather conditions. Capacity fields made up of more than 1000 athletes took to the enticer, sprint and Olympic distance events.

David Mainwaring took out the overall win in the Olympic distance triathlon with a dominant bike and run performance.
The 22-year-old Wollongong athlete trailed local runner Ollie Whistler out of the water, but required just four kilometres of the bike leg to overtake Ollie and lead all the way to the line.
Following the race Mainwaring said that winning his first TriHusky event was a great way to return to the sport.
“I haven’t raced a triathlon since March, so winning today was a great way to blow out the cobwebs,” he said.
“I used this event as part of my training schedule to prepare for the Canberra half ironman event.”
Mainwaring praised organisers Elite Energy for another well run meeting.
“They always put on a well organised event,” he said.
“The course is spectacular with the run along the shoreline, and I couldn’t think of a better place for a swim leg.”
In the women’s race Sarah Fletcher was up against Rowena Sinclair-Smith who usually races 35-39 division. Fletcher was dominant in the swim, lost less than a minute on the bike and was a minute quicker on the run to claim a strong victory.
More than 400 competitors faced the starter’s gun in the sprint triathlon. Jake Montgomery and Bridget
Reilly were the first male and female home. Jake finished ahead of Mick Maroney and Bradley Fraser.
Bridget Reilly finished just 18 seconds ahead of Isabella Khoudair with Ashley Thomas finishing third.
In the enticer event Corey Benham and Gabby Mastroianni were the first home.
More than 220 people took to the enticer event, a great indication of the growing popularity of the event.
