The development includes a new multi-purpose facility containing office space, meeting rooms, training facilities, a call centre, family contact rooms and a community hub.

Crisis carer Jan Newton said a purpose built facility for CareSouth had been needed for a while and it was great to see the funding had come through.

"We didn't have a lot of space where we've been and this space is going to be great for the community as well," she said.

"CareSouth is big on restoring children with families so they need a convenient space and meeting rooms."

Jan has been a carer for six years and said it was truly rewarding.

"Of course your heart does get broken as well from time to time but the good outweighs the bad," she said,

"To see children come into your care so nervous and timid, you have to be careful and give them time.

"But then you see a little hand slip into yours or a smile and you know you're getting a break through and they're trusting you."

Gilmore MP Fiona Phillips said with the community going through so much over the last few months it was fantastic to have some good news with the start of construction.

"We know there is a huge need for improved supports for disadvantaged people in our community," Mrs Phillips said.

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said with more than 70 staff and 300 children the new space was well and truly needed.

"This new development will make accessing services and support easier," he said.
