Grey clouds hang about like huge vultures looking for a carcass.
"Winter is coming".
No, this isn't an episode of Game of Thrones, it's your weekly episode of On The Beat.
This episode is designed to warm you up and keep you safe this winter, so grab a cup of coffee, put a turtleneck jumper on, hold the cup with two hands just like the commercials and start reading.
It is getting colder in the mornings and it is definitely harder to get out of bed.
The floors are cold, the blankets are warm, it's a hard decision to make, get out of bed or stay, however for most, we have to get out of bed.
Once you get up, turn the heater on and warm up the house everything becomes bearable.
Talking about heaters, there are many types - electric, gas, oil and wood to name just four.
All these types of heaters require maintenance to work properly.
Carbon monoxide escaping into the room, chimney fires and flue fires due to the build-up of creosote can damage your house or even burn it down.
The purpose of a heater is to warm up the house not to warm up the neighbourhood.
You may ask, "What have police got to do with heater maintenance?"
Let me tell you.
If your house burns down police investigate the fire and report the incident to the coroner whether that be only relating to the fire and in the worst-case scenario a death as a result of the fire.
Some simple precautionary measures put in place to maintain your appliance and some added care surrounding the heather or fire can reduce a lot of trauma for all.
So how about getting your heater checked before the real cold weather hits.
It's an investment in the welfare of your family and others in the community.
That's all the excitement I have for you today,
