In between the South Coast bushfires, floods and most recently the coronavirus pandemic, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads did enough to take home all three first grade trophies this season.
However, just who from that Magpies' side were instrumental enough to make my 2019/20 SDCA Team of the Season - a squad in which I have rewarded on-field success and individual statistics.
The South Coast Register's Team of the Season, listed in batting order, are:
1. David Crapp (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads)
Crapp, despite being the tender age of 51, hardly missed a beat this season with the Magpies.
The opener finished the season 279 runs to his name, at an average of 34.88 across all three formats.
Crapp's high-score of 76 came against Bomaderry on December 14.
His leadership and experience for the Magpies at the top of the order was instrumental in helping his side claim three pieces of silverware this campaign and this sees him selected as the Team of the Season's captain.
2. Blake Munilla (Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens)
Munilla, after spending the English summer with Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club in the United Kingdom, returned to the SDCA with high hopes, for both himself and his side - who made three grand finals the previous season.
Although he would admit he didn't have his best season with the bat, Munilla still chalked up 236 runs this campaign, at an average of 29.50.
Munilla, who will also be this Team of the Season's wicketkeeper, was one of only four batsmen to make a first grade century this season, scoring 108 against his former club Bomaderry in round 12.
3. Conrad Greenshields (Ulladulla United)
At the start of the season, no one outside of the Ulladulla United Cricket Club would have known who Greenshields, a 35-year-old South African, was.
However, that quickly changed, as his 26 and 3/25 against Bomaderry steered United to a round one win.
Greenshields, in United's next match, blasted 123 from 114 balls, before taking 6/27 from his nine overs against Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens at Lighthouse Oval.
This laid the platform for Greenshields to finish the season with 412 runs at 37.45 and along with his 24 wickets at 15.05, saw him take home a swag of awards including first grade's batting, all-rounder and player of the year - as well as the SDCA's Cricketer of the Year.
Greenshields, who had two six-wicket hauls this season, also helped United finish the regular season in second place behind Berry.
4. Nick McDonald (North Nowra-Cambewarra)
The majority of Norths' first grade side started the season with a premiership hangover, losing their first five matches of the 2019/20 season.
One that didn't was reliable batsman Nick McDonald, with him scoring in double figures in seven of his nine innings - the best (62) coming against Berry on October 26.
McDonald finished the season with 292 runs, at an average of 36.5 - which saw him finish the campaign as the third leading run-maker, behind Greenshields and Ex-Servos' Corey Evans.
5. Corey Evans (Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens)
Evans' stint might have been brief with Ex-Servos (five games) but he definitely made his mark during the matches.
In his first game of the season against Berry, he smashed 86, before blitzing Bomaderry for 100 not out seven days later.
His final three innings of 34, 82 and 33 took his season tally to 345 - at an outstanding average of 86.3.
Despite his lack of time on the field, Evans still finished the season as the second leading run-scorer.
6. Nathan Thomas (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads)
If you need any proof why Nathan Thomas deserves to be in this side, cast your minds back to his side's T20 match with North Nowra-Cambewarra on December 13.
The batsman hit the first four balls of the innings, off the bowling of Hugh Gillen, for six - highlighting how destructive he can be with the willow.
Then later on the year, Thomas smashed the same opponent for 119 (including six boundaries and eight sixes) in a two-day match at the Berry Sports Complex - the second highest score by a batsman this season (behind Conrad Greenshields' 123).
Thomas finished the season with 286 runs, at an average of 31.8.
7. Jarrod Mitchell (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads)
With a changing of the guard happening at Berry this season, Crapp needed some of his more experienced players to stand up - which is exactly what Mitchell did.
After blasting 13 boundaries on his way to 83 in the season opener against Norths, Mitchell went onto his best ever return in a SDCA first grade season.
He piled up 278 runs - one behind teammate Crapp, at an average of 30.89, which saw him finish as the competition's fifth top run scorer.
He was a big part of the reason why Berry claimed all three premierships on offer this season.
8. Michael Coulter (Bomaderry)
Although the 2018 SDCA Cricketer of the Year didn't have his best season (by his standards), Coulter still contributed to Bomaderry finishing the regular season in third place.
Coulter, despite breaking his thumb in the first game of the season, still managed an average of 29.3 with the willow - highlighted by an 85 against Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens in round 12.
As solid as his batting was, the real reason the all-rounder, who can bat anywhere in the order, is picked in this side was because of his bowling.
The 29-year-old was the competition's leading wicket-taker, alongside Ulladulla United's Conrad Greenshields, with 24 scalps.
These wickets, an average of 13.33 and strike rate of 28.75 helped Coulter secure the SDCA first grade bowling award.
9. Daniel Troy (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads)
Troy was Mr Consistency for Crapp's side, with the seamer taking multiple scalps in all but two of his 11 matches.
He claimed three-wicket hauls on three different occasions, with the best (3/4) coming against United on November 16.
This saw him finish the campaign with 18 wickets, at an average of 14.11 and strike rate of 21.33.
He also scored in double figures with the bat in eight of his 12 innings, to record 148 for the season.
10. Peter King (Ulladulla United)
Since his return to the club three years ago, King has been one of United's top performers with the ball and this season was no different.
The electric right-arm medium pace bowler finished with 19 wickets, from just six matches - largely due to his ability to both swing and seam the ball.
As such, he finished the season with the competition's top average (10.26) and strike rate (18.11) - for all players who took more than 10 wickets this season.
He had two five wicket hauls this season; the first against Bomaderry (5/29) and then against Ex-Servos (5/28)
Although he played four games more then both Coulter and Greenshields - who both took 24 scalps - King only finished five wickets behind the pair, highlighting his impact with the ball.
11. Jacob Temple (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads)
Temple is the fifth Magpie to make this Team of the Season, which highlights their strong play this year but also that other teams didn't have many others step up to the mark in 2019/20.
The Magpies recruit finished the season with 18 scalps, at an average of 15.83 and strike rate of 23 - seeing him finish the campaign as the fifth leading wicket taker.
His best return of the season came in Berry's round 14 clash with Bomaderry, which was the last time they'd take the field this season.
During his two innings with the ball, Temple 4/40 and 3/30, for a combined 7/70 for the match.
12. Sam Bagnall (Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens)
Bagnall and his fellow all-rounder Ex-Servos teammate Manning Berry both went close to making the team but they just didn't have the weight of numbers to force their way into the Team of the Season.
Of the two, Bagnall had the better season, scoring 175 runs at 21.88 and 16 wickets at 16.75 - enough to finish 19th and seven respectively in the batting and bowling rankings.
