It is understood police were called to assist Mr Ward when he became disoriented on Wednesday night.
The procedure, conducted on Tuesday, March 10, was his second hospital admission this week.
"On Tuesday I was admitted to hospital for the second time in a week, and as a result, yesterday I was placed under general anaesthetic for a procedure," Mr Ward said.
"Last night I became disorientated while at home.
"I would like to thank emergency services for returning me to my residence safely."
Mr Ward's office would not confirm whether he had left his residence, or whether he was in Sydney or at his Shoalhaven home.
Police issued a statement on Thursday afternoon saying that just after 11.30pm on Wednesday, March 11 police were called to an apartment block at Potts Point following reports an unknown man was attempting to open the front door of a unit.
"Officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command attended a short time later, locating a naked man standing in the doorway of another unit, and after determining that was his residence, escorted him inside," NSW police said.
"As the 38-year-old man appeared to be disoriented, assistance was requested from NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he declined to be transported to hospital.
"Police were called to the unit block again about 12.30am on Thursday March 12, following a report the man was walking around the common areas of the building in his underpants.
"The officers returned the man to his unit, where he again declined medical assistance.
"Given the man's state of confusion during the evening, officers attended about 7.30am today to discuss the incidents and advised the man to discuss further with his general practitioner.
"No further police action is anticipated."
