A series of events were held as part of the gala day at South Werri in Gerringong. The day included a bodysurfing competition, a retro surfboard competition, an ironman race 'The Werri Warrior' and a fundraising barbecue and bake sale.
Gerringong Surf Club president Richard Payne said the club was overwhelmed by the public response.
"It was unbelievable," he said. "I've been at the surf club since the day I was born and that's the best day I've ever seen there.
"There's obviously a lot of concern in the community and people's thoughts are with everyone who has suffered because of these bushfires.
"We made $1500 from the bake sale alone and one bloke apparently paid $50 for a cookie. This was a way for the community get out and support everyone doing it tough."
The highlight of the day was a monster raffle and auction with about $20,000 in prizes including a surfboard donated by Culburra's own world tour surfer Tyler Wright.
Mr Payne said the club was currently considering which charity avenue the money raised would be contributed too.
In conjunction with the fun day the club organised two truckloads of food and toiletries for those directly impacted by the fires. The club distributed those goods at one of the evacuation centres on the South Coast on Monday,
