Air quality in Sydney is forecast to be poor for the next 24-hours, with some parts of the state experiencing hazardous particles in the air.
NSW Health has issued information advising people likely to be impacted by smoke to stay indoors, take their reliever medication or seek medical help if they feel short of breath.
People most at risk of health problems because of excessive smoke and air pollution are: babies and children; elderly people; people who have breathing disorders such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (including chronic bronchitis and emphysema); people with a cardiovascular (heart-related) condition.
The healthdirect online tool can be used to check the severity of symptoms for people unsure of whether to seek medical help.
The service includes a free helpline (1800 022 222) where people can speak to a registered nurse regarding their symptoms and receive advice on what they should do next.
