The 60-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under his authority and six counts of aggravated sexual assault of victim under 16 years.
Court papers said the sexual assaults started when the girl was aged 14, and progressed from touching her breasts and vagina to oral sex and eventually intercourse.
The assaults happened between June 2009 and July 2010.
In an interview with police, the man admitted to having intercourse with the girl on a number of occasions, but "had never climaxed during the incidents" and it had "only been for her pleasure".
In Nowra District Court Judge Chris O'Brien sentenced the man to 12 years' jail with a non-parole period of eight years.
He will be eligible for release in August 2027.
