What is a robbery?
Robbery is the theft of property using the threat of or violence.
Under the Work, Health and Safety Act you as an employer have a duty of care to provide a safe work environment for your staff and patrons.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to your local police including;
* Individuals whose actions are suspicious or out of character.
* Strangers who might be observing the venue or staff movements.
* Individuals asking questions about the venue's operational procedures.
* Research has shown that some robbers will check out your business before they target you.

If you are the victim of a robbery;
* Stay calm and take no risks.
* Do as you are told, follow the offender's instructions at all times.
* Avoid eye contact and show your hands.
* Don't try to retaliate or attack the offender.
* Avoid any sudden or unexpected movements.

The personal safety of staff and patrons is more important than the money or stock lost, after the offenders have left and it is safe to do so.
* Shut and lock all external doors to the premises.
