Both the senior men’s and women’s squads have participated in food drive, with all donations going to homeless people around the Shoalhaven, just in time for Christmas.
Newly appointed Tigers men’s coach Matt Barnes is one of the main driving forces behind the club’s great initiative.
“The Bomaderry Tigers have had a great year – winning premierships and celebrating was amazing,” Barnes said.
“But unfortunately, there are those within the community who struggle to survive day to day, particularly at this time of year and we wanted to help.”
The collected food will be donated to Family and Community Services (FACS) for dispersal to those in need over the Christmas period.
“We wanted to make a donation,” Barnes said.
“It’s just something to help those less fortunate have some joy over Christmas.
“They really are basic food items that most of us take for granted but I’m sure they will be appreciated by whoever receives them.”
Barnes highlighted that this generous initiative is just one of the numerous activities the club plans to do for the community in the future.
“There is more to being a sporting club than just on-field success and that is giving back to the community,” Barnes said.
“It’s great the boys and girls have got this parcel together.”
