Nick Johns and Scott James put Nowra Velo on the top step of the podium at different venues.
Johns was racing in the Marconi Cycle Club’s Wednesday twilight criteriums at Eastern Creek and took a clear sprint win in the division two event from a field of 39 riders.
As the only Nowra Velo Club rider in this race Johns followed the organised teams from Penrith and Parramatta into the final kilometre where he found space ahead and launched for the line.
Johns won this event by a clear four lengths from Penrith’s Robbie Hacker.
On Sunday morning Johns lined up for the Southern Cross criteriums at Waratah Park, Sutherland and was elevated to the division one field.
Despite being baulked by a crash in the final 200 metres of the race Johns finished in fifth position.
Waratah Park was also the venue for the Sutherland Shire Cycle Club’s Friday twilight criteriums where Scott James and Gavin Nethery were entered in the division three event.
Nethery was prominent at the front of the race until James made a solo break at half distance. Nethery continued to patrol the front of the field as James raced out to a 200 metre lead.
James picked up lap prizes as he raced his way to a win for more prize money and prize vouchers.
The Nowra Velo Club has gained a new member with vast country track and national velodrome racing experience in the last week with Adrian McMillan transferring from the Illawarra Cycle Club. McMillan raced under the Nowra Velo name at the Shimano Sydney Cup on Wheels program at the Dunc Gray indoor velodrome at Bass Hill on Saturday evening.
McMillan’s summer racing program on various velodromes and country tracks has him at Newcastle, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Dubbo, Unanderra and Bathurst along with the city tracks at Bass Hill, Tempe, Hurstville and Merrylands.
