The District Singles were played at Greenwell Point, Culburra, Bomaderry and St Georges Basin thank you to the clubs for putting their clubs forward.
Deborah Wilson from Bomaderry played Wendy Garnett from Bomaderry at Culburra in a tight game with Deborah winning. Deborah then played Beverley Thompson from Bomaderry cruising in for another win. Deborah also played in the a.m. Michelle Smith from Gerringong with another win. In the p.m. at Bomaderry, Deborah played some great bowls to beat Meg McClure. On the third day at St Georges Basin Deborah was in the the Semi Final in the morning, playing consistent bowls, winning against Sue McGilvray from Gerringong. The final was played with great sportsmanship,Deborah bowled against Joanne Cattley from Milton Ulladulla, Deborah played with her imposing ability to go on to win the final.

After the game President Fiona Collins invited the Players and District V.Ps Barbara Young and Meg McClure, Chair of Match Nancye Carre, Match Ann Raphael and District Publicity Suzanne Stevenson for or a lovely afternoon tea where V.P Barbara Young presented the Runner Up Joanne Cattley with her certificate and Deborah Wilson with her winning badge and medal. Deborah thanked all the players.
South Coast District Men
The semi finals of the Champion of Champion singles was played at St Georges Basin on Sunday, June 4. In the first semi Callala’s Anthony Fisher 31 def Lake Conjolas Scot Mathieson 29. In the second semi final Jamie Preo (The Basin) 31 proved to good for Dave Henry (Mollymook) 28.
The final was set down for Saturday 16th at The Basin between Anthony Fisher and Jamie Preo. In front of a healthy crowd played in very trying conditions it was The Basins Jamie Preo 31 defeating Callala’s Anthony Fisher 22. Great effort by both finalists and Jamie now travels down to the zone playoffs in August to try and take out the Zone 7 crown. Best of luck in the zone final.
On Sunday the Champion of Champion pairs started at Ulladulla. There will be results posted in a couple of weeks.

Callala Women
Wet and cold weather has disrupted bowls over the past week. The final of the Pairs Championship was played over two days because of rain. Sam Bowerman and Lyn Byrne played Lesley Harbrow and Terry McMillan. Lesley and Terry took the early lead with Sam and Lyn closing the gap to 3 when play was called off due to heavy rain on the 13th end. Play resumed on the next day with Lesley and Terry winning the 2018 Pairs Championship, 16 – 11.
Congratulations to both teams for a great game and also to Lesley and Terry who last won the Pairs in 2006.
Social triples game played on Tuesday, June 12, saw Lyn Byrne, Colleen Tracy and Jan Wright defeat Terry McMillan, Dianne Dawes and Beverley Young by 2 shots, 9 – 7.
Callala Men
Around 20 spectators travelled to St Georges Basin to cheer on Anthony Fisher for the final of the Champion of Club Champions against Jamie Preo on Saturday, June 16. The weather conditions were not ideal for bowls with cold, gusty westerly winds playing havoc on the green. Anthony started well winning the first couple of ends. Jamie finally got on top and led for the rest of the game with Anthony very close behind. Jamie won the match 31 – 22. Congratulations to both players for a fantastic game and to Anthony for doing Callala proud.
The semi-final of the Men’s Pairs Championship was played with Terry Castle and Chris Harbrow defeating Steve (Peewee) Irwin and Steve Foley. The final is set down for next weekend between team Harbrow and team Fisher. Results next week.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men
Sunny days offset the bitterly cold wind with the result of medium participation this week. Wednesday saw 30 members enjoying a cold but sunny afternoon with a chilly South Westerly wind. Six games of Social Pairs were contested with one game of Social Triples. Saturday saw 28 brave souls on the greens, freezing in a strong Westerly wind. Four matches of Round 1 of the Club Major Pairs Championship were completed as well as three games of Social Mixed Pairs.
Wednesday, June 13 - the medium paced greens were a joy to play on. The SW wind made accurate bowling difficult.
Rink 1 saw the only game of Social Triples. Pat Ward (welcome back), Steve Hollington and Dave Milne played fabulous bowls to thrash the opposition by 29 shots to 17.
Rink 2 Adrien Davidson and Graham Eyre played superb bowls to win by 24 to 16 shots.
Rink 3 was another tough game, Paul Takac and John Edwards had a great win as they annihilated their opponents by 30 shots to 17.
Rink 4 saw Roy Cartledge and Ray Solway play magnificent bowls to win by 25 to 19 shots.
Rink 5 in a surprising result, Paul Goddard and John Black played excellent bowls to devastate their opposition by 28 shots to 15.
Rink 6 witnessed some brilliant bowling by Allan Furniss and Peter Smith who won by 23 to 16 shots.
Rink 7 in the closest game of the afternoon, Tommy Smith and Trevor Wright just made it home from a fast finishing opposition to win by 18 shots to 15.

Saturday June 16 – was a horrendous day for bowls. The chilly strong wind froze everyone playing and with the fast greens, made accurate bowling a nightmare.
Rink 2 In the first match of the Club Major Pairs Championship, Allan Furniss and Peter Smith played inspired bowls to beat John O’Dell and John Black by 31 to 17 shots.
Rink 3 saw the next Championship match where Alessandro Lattanzio and John Mac showed all their experience and class to overcome Roy Cartledge and Ray Solway by 39 to 7 shots.
Rink 5 Steve Hollington and Dave Milne were just too good on the day, for Daryl Goodger and Bert Madge and won the match by 24 shots to 18.
Rink 6 witnessed the final Championship match for the day, where a fast finishing Ian Abberley and Harry Pearce came over the top to beat John Newbold and Tim McCormack by 31 to 18 shots.
Rink 9 observed the first game of Social Mixed Pairs with Paul Shean and Graham Mills crushing their opponents by 37 shots to 19.
Rink 10 watched Norm Schulz and Norma Yee thump their opponents by 19 to 10 shots.
Rink 11 beheld Pat Black and Michael Edwards at their best as they disposed of the opposition by 21 shots to 11.

Bomaderry Men
Tuesday social, 1st Bob Webster & Lindsay Hills, 2nd Todd Marsden & Peter Drinkwater, 3rd Keith Beresford & Steve Helson, $400 jackpot spin was by Terry Massling & Derek Chapman who were unsuccessful the half jackpot spin was Willie Sulz & Ken Smart who were also unsuccessful.
Thursday social saw Noel Duff & Harry Griffith take 1st prize, 2nd went to Greg Tatam & Rick Mc Lachlan, 3rd to John Keeffe & Garry Gilligan, the $400 jackpot spin was by Steve Fuller & Bob Webster, also Mark Abbott & Derek Chapman had a try both pairs being unsuccessful, the half jackpot spin was given to each of the other rinks who were also unsuccessful.
Saturday social & the State Challenge were both cancelled because of wind the State Challenge to be rescheduled.
Berry Men
Good number of bowlers hit the green on Wednesday 13th. Some of the notable matches included Peter Haddon, Barry Dunn and his brother Bob who took an early lead that was adequate to take the match from a fast finishing opponent of Mick Vassallo, Daryl Goodger and Peter Webb.
Another closely contested triples match saw Bert Madge, David Lambert and Peter Delamont defeat Derek Raymond, Geoff Lidbetter and Nick Nicholls. In the pairs match of the afternoon Tom Froggatt and David Badger took the lead at end five and held on for a win from the fast finishing pairing of Russell Tulloch and Col Good.
Due to weather conditions numbers were down on Saturday 16th and in the triples match of the day Barry Dunn, Wade Eaton and David Lambert defeated Kate Jenkinson, Lindsay McNamara and Geoff Lidbetter.
Members are reminded that the AGM will be held on Wednesday July 5 and that entries for the 2018 Triples Championship close on July 7.
Culburra Women
Last week six of our lady bowlers competed in the District Singles Championship. The standard of play was high everyone put in a mighty effort. With our club hosting the first two rounds, our Social players were keen to watch and support their club players.
Thursday Social bowls saw three games of triples played. Winners were Margaret Gilchrist, Lorraine Foster and Jean Eagleton over Trish Tom, Lynne McKee and Helen Neilsen, Robin Bryan, Carol Blackshaw and Sandra Annetts over Anne Dwyer, Marea Challender and Lorraine Epple, and Eileen Hunter, Carol Turton and June Jones over Narrelle Wetsteyn, Trish Bailey and Marilyn O’Day.
