Stephen Yates, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing an unauthorised firearm and not keeping a firearm safely.
Court papers said, acting on information police found Yates in his car with a female passenger bushland off Medlyn Road, Sussex Inlet, around 3.15pm on November 29 last year.
Police approached the vehicle, which did not have registration plates, and asked Yates if he had any firearms in the car.
Police said Yates reached into the rear of the car and produced a Gecado 25 air rifle.
He admitted to officers he didn't have a licence and knew it was an offence to have the air rifle without a licence.
Nowra Local Court Magistrate Gabriel Fleming fined him $1500 and placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
