Mr Gill retired to write a series of books with a co-enthusiast. The books are called Miscellaneous Australian Parrots.
SAS members were shown a slideshow featuring the many parrots Mr Gill has written about.
The budgerigar is the most common parrot and Mr Gill said most aviculturists begin their avery journey with this species.
The budgerigar is the world's most popular pet bird with an extreme cheerfulness of disposition and can be tamed, taught to talk and they breed readily.
These parrots are native to Australia and in the wild are much smaller than the domesticated type and are only green.
They are distributed over most Australia but rarely along the east coast, they inhabit the dry inland area.
SAS’s April meeting will be on discussions and preparations for the annual bird sale which is on April 21.
