Corey James Heferen, 39, appeared in Nowra Local Court on Monday (March 12) pleading guilty to possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing a prohibited drug.

Heferen was arrested by police after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was stopped for a random breath test on the Princes Highway at Bomaderry in the early hours of January 9.

Police said Heffernan, who was sitting in the front seat, appeared extremely nervous, was perspiring, his hands were shaky and fidgety and he would not make eye contact with officers.

Police told those in the car they were going to conduct a search of the vehicle and the occupants.

Asked if he had anything in his pockets, Heferen told police he had “a Taser” and it was “for self defence”.

He allegedly told officers had had nothing else in his pockets, but a search revealed four grams of methylamphetamine or ice.

Heferen told police it was for “personal use” and he had paid $700 for the drugs.

He also faces a separate charge of reckless driving.

He will reappear in court in April.
