The tent that has appeared near the centre of town and a caravan on a vacant block are few of signs.
Also, it appears people have been taking shelter under buildings, while many roam the streets looking for any shelter they can find.
Shoalhaven Homeless Hub manager Kerri Snowden is not looking forward to winter.
What she is looking forward to is a long-term solution to ease the situation.
Ms Snowden said many people struggle to find a place, while others just don’t like to ask for help.
She knows many people in the community will support the homeless and she would like to thank the people and groups who all gave them support in the past.
“We were just overwhelmed with people’s generosity once again over Christmas and I really want to impress on everyone just how grateful we were for what we got,” she said.
She said cash donations from the Archer Social Club and the Nowra CWA were gratefully accepted.
“Those donations enabled us to put on a really good Christmas lunch for the homeless and give them presents,” the hub manager said.
“The reaction to those presents was amazing and quite a few people were in tears.
“A lady said to me she did not open her presents until the first week of February.
“She waited until she was having a really down day and opening a present gave her a lift.”
The food and cash donations truly helped the hub.
However, the donations have eased off which worries Ms Snowden with winter not too far away.
“Coming up to winter the demand on our service will be a lot higher,” she said.
They need cash for food vouchers and to pay the emergency accommodation costs for people seeking to get out to of the cold.
“I just hope it’s not another wet winter like we had a few years ago,” Ms Snowden added.
They are in desperate need of cash to help their clients pay for medical costs, car repairs and for other emergencies.
Ms Snowden said people can call them to make a donation, could come to the Hub any weekday except Monday.
“It does not matter if it’s $1, $10 or $100 it all adds up,” she said.
The group has a ‘Go Fund Page’ at www.gofundme.com/shoalhaven-homeless-hub or call 4423 2804 Tuesday to Thursdays from 10-3 pm.
Ms Snowden hopes Safe Shelter Shoalhaven will open up again this year.
Safe Shelter Shoalhaven was a church driven project that gave homeless people somewhere to stay during winter.
