While at the camp in late February, she experienced military aviation and technical roles first hand, as well as the day-to-day routine of an Air Force base.

She also took part in mentoring sessions with technical trainees and engineers, public speaking tasks and team building activities.

Katlynn signed up to the camp to find out more about military life.

“If I were to join the Air Force I would hope to achieve a career I would love, self-discipline and an experience of a lifetime, hopefully including some travel,” she said.

Katlynn said the week was an eye opening experience.

“I would encourage every young girl to attend who is thinking about the Air Force or has an interest in a technical career,” she said.

Diversity and Inclusion Officer in Charge Squadron Leader Jacqueline Killian said participants from around the country were selected based on their strength of application, interest in technician and engineering roles, interest in maths and science subjects and importantly, their leadership qualities.

The camps have been running since 2013 and have produced positive results with 79 per cent of participants then actively pursuing careers in Air Force.
