The donation was made on behalf of local legal practitioners to support the community they work and live in, and will allow the educational program to employ a regular learning club coordinator.
Through 2017 members raised the donated funds at both their annual Christmas in July Trivia event and continuing legal education training day held in memory of murdered lawyer Katie Foreman.
Members of the SDLS Executive Committee visited the East Nowra Learning Club on Wednesday to meet local students participating in the Smith Family's educational support programs including the Learning for Life program.
SDLS president Lauren Howes said that the donation was made as part of the society’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community and connecting with regional charities.
"The SDLS is very happy to be able to support organisations like the Smith Family,” she said.
“Our members have a very strong commitment to giving back to the community that they live and work in.
“We are passionate about contributing to the future of our region – in this case, by supporting the education of young people in the area.”
Smith Family Shoalhaven team leader Suanne Sneddon said the donation will help support the services provided to students.
"The Learning Club creates a positive environment to support local students with homework and school assignments,” she said.
“The donation from SDLS will provide East Nowra Learning Club with a regular Learning Club Coordinator.
“A consistent coordinator will build connections with the students, families, the school and volunteers." Ms Sneddon said.
"The donation will also provide much needed resources to the Learning Club.
“We will use the funds to supply afternoon tea and stationary items for the students."
