Students were treated to a series of presentations by Member for Kiama and ex-Bomaderry High School student Gareth Ward, Robbie Collins (UOW), Vicki Lloyd (TAFE) and Donna Corbyn (Shoalhaven City Council) who provided an overview of their ‘career journey’ to Bomaderry High School students.
Principal of Bomaderry High School Ian Morris also gave the students some insight into his work life and emphasised the need for young people to find their passion and strive for personal success.
The Work Education workshops are part of a larger program introduced at Bomaderry High School in 2018 by careers adviser Holly Pastor to engage students in career planning from year 7-12.
“By completing these workshops students will have the opportunity to prepare for their future and consider the employment and training pathways available to them both locally and further afield,” Ms Pastor said.
“Planning to make the transition to post school life is the best way young people can avoid the pitfalls of unemployment, which is a significant issue in the Shoalhaven.”
Bomaderry High School students will continue to participate in Work Education workshops throughout the year and develop employability skills in the process.
